Outstanding harpist Hugh Webb and stunning violist Anne Beilby join forces to perform a programme of reimagined songs including plain chant by Hildegard of Bingen – a highly influential 12th Century Benedictine nun; exquisite arrangements of Debussy and Fauré chansons from the Belle Époque and arrangements of Gershwin’s 1935 opera Porgy and Bess. The first jazz opera was considered controversial due to the enormous tensions caused by segregation. The songs however become instant and universal hits.
