Distinguished chamber musicians Adrian Bradbury and Andrew West continue their survey of Beethoven’s music for Cello and Piano.

Amanda-Jane Doran – Collections and House Manager at Ightham Mote – explores the life and times of star contralto, Mary Postans.  Postans was one of the leading singers of her day and sang at Queen Victoria’s coronation in 1838.  Hailing from Kent, she premiered works by Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn and Verdi.  Her collection is held at Ightham including her piano which is a Stodart from 1830.  This instrument will be heard in todays concert in The Drawing Room at 7pm.

BBC New Generations Artist – Helen Charlston performs music associated with the distinguished 19th century contralto, Mary Postans with pianist Sholto Kynoch at Ightham Mote.

Join Callum Au on piano with his rhythm section, Jeremy Brown – Bass and Joel Barford  – Drums for a workshop working through a jazz chart, working with Callum to generate ideas around solo and listening skills for improvisation.  Bring your instrument to play with Callum, Jeremy and Joel then listen to the band as they rehearse for the evening concert after the workshop.

Learn to create music….from Scratch!  Join some of the UK’s finest workshop leaders and musicians in a Sunday music making session for children aged 5+ (well behaved parents can join in too).

From complete beginner to virtuoso, there is no experience needed to create amazing music. Bring yourself, an instrument (we have a limited supply of percussion for those who don’t) and spend time making some brilliant music.

This event is super special as it takes place during our festival period – you are now an official performer at the festival.

Come and sing alongside the brilliant Marian Consort in a workshop focused on Tallis – Salvator Mundi. Work with the choir, watch them rehearse and perform side-by-side in a public concert in the iconic setting of Ightham Mote. The workshop and concert are free to participants.  There are limited spaces on a first come, first serve basis. A fabulous opportunity to work with one of the best vocal groups around!

Professor Magnus Williamson explores the life and times of Sir William Haute – owner of Ightham Mote and composer. Haute’s music is featured in todays concert at 5pm in The Great Hall, Ightham Mote and the talk places the music into its historical and cultural context, written during the turbulent Wars of the Roses and the early Tudor period.

World-renowned ensemble Fretwork celebrate the 400th anniversary of Matthew Locke whose fascinating music spanned the reign of Charles I; The Commonwealth – where music was banned – and The Restoration of the Monarchy in 1660. Josephine Willoughby gives an informal talk about the stunning stained glass windows of All Saints’ Church, Tudeley which were commissioned by Sir Henry and Lady Rosemary D’Avigdor Goldschmid as a memorial to their daughter who tragically died aged 21 in 1963. The talk explores the background to the commission and the meaning of the windows which were completed in 1985: the year of Chagall’s death.
