Talk – Mary Postans: Muse to the Mendelssohns

Amanda-Jane Doran – Collections and House Manager at Ightham Mote – explores the life and times of star contralto, Mary Postans.  Postans was one of the leading singers of her day and sang at Queen Victoria’s coronation in 1838.  Hailing from Kent, she premiered works by Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn and Verdi.  Her collection is held at Ightham including her piano which is a Stodart from 1830.  This instrument will be heard in todays concert in The Drawing Room at 7pm.

Learn to create music….from Scratch!  Join some of the UK’s finest workshop leaders and musicians in a Sunday music making session for children aged 5+ (well behaved parents can join in too).

From complete beginner to virtuoso, there is no experience needed to create amazing music. Bring yourself, an instrument (we have a limited supply of percussion for those who don’t) and spend time making some brilliant music.

This event is super special as it takes place during our festival period – you are now an official performer at the festival.

Talk – Marc Chagall and the windows of All Saints’ Church, Tudeley

Josephine Willoughby gives an informal talk about the stunning stained glass windows of All Saints’ Church, Tudeley which were commissioned by Sir Henry and Lady Rosemary D’Avigdor Goldschmid as a memorial to their daughter who tragically died aged 21 in 1963. The talk explores the background to the commission and the meaning of the windows which were completed in 1985: the year of Chagall’s death.

Learn to create music….from Scratch!  Join some of the UK’s finest workshop leaders and musicians in a Sunday music making session for children aged 5+ (well behaved parents can join in too).

From complete beginner to virtuoso, there is no experience needed to create amazing music. Bring yourself, an instrument (we have a limited supply of percussion for those who don’t) and spend time making some brilliant music.
