Amanda-Jane Doran – Collections and House Manager at Ightham Mote – explores the life and times of star contralto, Mary Postans. Postans was one of the leading singers of her day and sang at Queen Victoria’s coronation in 1838. Hailing from Kent, she premiered works by Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn and Verdi. Her collection is held at Ightham including her piano which is a Stodart from 1830. This instrument will be heard in todays concert in The Drawing Room at 7pm.

Josephine Willoughby gives an informal talk about the stunning stained glass windows of All Saints’ Church, Tudeley which were commissioned by Sir Henry and Lady Rosemary D’Avigdor Goldschmid as a memorial to their daughter who tragically died aged 21 in 1963. The talk explores the background to the commission and the meaning of the windows which were completed in 1985: the year of Chagall’s death.
