Sound and Music is the national charity for new music in the UK.
Our mission is to maximise the opportunities for people of all ages to create and enjoy new music.
Through our education work, we aim to nurture and promote the musical creativity and compositional skills of children and young people. We do this through a diverse programme that provides opportunities for young people to create and compose their own music, as well as continuing professional development and resources for music educators. More broadly, we also work at a national level to increase the awareness and understanding of the value of composing and creativity.
Our work spans composer and artist development, partnerships with a range of organisations, audience development, information and advice for artists, and education work. We champion new music and the work of British composers and artists, seeking to ensure they are at the heart of cultural life.
Our Education Work includes:
– Go Compose
A growing network of projects and partnerships to develop progression pathways for young composers and creative musicians.
– Our Summer School for young composers and creative musicians
A unique, week-long residential for young people aged 14-18 to develop their composing skills, supported by professional musicians and composers.
– Listen Imagine Compose
A programme of continuing professional development for educators who are supporting children and young people to compose.
– Minute of Listening
An online resource for primary schools that develops listening skills, enhances the curriculum and brings an exciting range of music and sound to the classroom.
