Music@Malling are delighted to have received funding from the The Overstone Fund which will help support our ongoing programme of concerts and outreach.

Maggi Hambling CBE creates new painting in response to Deborah Pritchard – Light

Music@Malling are delighted that the legendary artist Maggi Hambling CBE has created a new work – Wall of Water, Light – in response to a new work for solo violin by composer, Deborah Pritchard.

The premiere of Light on 10th June 2023 as part of Earth, Water, Air and Fire, will feature the new painting which will be exhibited in St.Mary’s Church, West Malling.

 

Go Compose!

Go Compose – run in conjunction with Sound and Music – will be on June 11th 2023 10-5 and culminated in a concert in The Pilgrim Chapel, Malling Abbey.

Composer Deborah Pritchard will lead the sessions which will create new pieces for violin and cello inspired by Maggi Hambling’s new painting – Wall of Water, Light. Thomas Kemp – Violin and Richard Harwood – Principal Cello of The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will be working with the young music creators and performing their new works. A fantastic opportunity in the inspiring setting of Malling Abbey.

 

Side-by-Side with Chamber Domaine!!

We are delighted that there will be a side-by-side with Chamber Domaine as part of Earth, Water, Air and Fire.  String players will rehearse and perform with the ensemble in Handel – Music for the Royal Fireworks in St.Mary’s Church, West Malling.  There is a pre-rehearsal at 10am in the St.Benedict’s Centre, Malling Abbey 10am-11am and then a general rehearsal with Chamber Domaine at 1pm with a concert at 2.30pm! A great opportunity to play alongside some of top musicians in the UK!

Earth, Water, Air and Fire

Music@Malling are delighted to present a series of concerts exploring the elements: Earth, Water, Air and Fire.  New works by Deborah Pritchard will be performed alongside music by George Frideric Handel – The Water Music and Music for the Royal Fireworks.  The concerts are immersive and feature art by Maggi Hambling CBE and Marc Chagall.  The concerts explore the relationship between the elements and and music.  Chamber Domaine will perform three concerts as part of the series.  The Artsdesk, in a five star review praised the ensemble for its “metaphysical brilliance…effortless and joyous playing meeting with an equally joyous response.”

Music@Malling are delighted to have received an award from the Lawson Endowment for Kent to support our outreach programme that inspires creativity through engagement with the arts.

The Henry Smith Charity supports Music@Malling

We are delighted that the Henry Smith Charity is financially supporting Music@Malling in the delivery and administration of our outreach programme for 2023/24 which brings outstanding music to people who would not otherwise have access to the arts.

Ambache Trust support project with composer Deborah Pritchard

We are delighted that the Ambache Trust are supporting a commission and concerts featuring the wonderfully evocative music of Deborah Pritchard.  Look out for our series of concerts that feature her music alongside art by Maggi Hambling and Marc Chagall! They will be fascinating events.

The Cobtree Charity Trust

We are very grateful to The Cobtree Charity Trust for giving very generous support to The Music@Malling Scratch Orchestra which brings children, young people and families together from the local community to create music.  Led by Jason Rowland and members of Chamber Domaine, there are monthly sessions in the iconic setting of Malling Abbey.
