Welcome to the fifth Music@Malling Festival - a festival that brings international artists to historical venues in and around West Malling, Kent.

The festival runs from Sunday 20th September through to Sunday 27th September. This year Bach is celebrated in a series of events: the complete Cello Suites with international soloist Richard Harwood in the inspiring setting of West Malling Abbey; the complete Flute and Organ Sonatas with Sami Junnonen and a Bach Pilgrimage held in churches along the Pilgrims Way.

The First World War is commemorated with music by Ravel and Debussy. The 150th anniversary of Sibelius and Nielsen is celebrated with a variety of chamber works and music for string orchestra, including the UK premiere of Sibelius - The Wood Nymph - a fascinating melodrama.

There are jazz events with James Pearson - Artistic Director of Ronnie Scotts including Hollywood Romance with legendary singer, Claire Martin OBE, evoking the Golden Age of film. Enjoy an evening with renowned TV and Film composer, Barrington Pheloung as he takes us on a journey through his scores for hit series Inspector Morse, Lewis and Endeavour: an evening of music to picture with Britain’s premiere studio musicians, The London Metropolitan Orchestra.

Music@Malling are delighted to have a world premiere from leading contemporary composer, David Horne based on the Brother’s Grimm Fairy Stories. Grimm Tales will be the culmination of a series of workshops held in local schools involving hundreds of school children in creative activities.

Talks and masterclasses will complement the performances.

The festival promises to be memorable and we look forward to sharing these special events with you in glorious local venues.

Music@Malling are very grateful for the help of a wide range of national, regional and local supporters and we hope that you enjoy what promises to be an exciting and memorable series of events.
